THE BOAT NAMED "PLATINETTE"

Bangladesh is known as the “Land of tides” and has innumerable rivers, affluents of Gange and Bhramaputra. The Filodijuta’s projects take place just along these rivers. We purchased an old boat and repaired it. Three expert boatmen fixed and put it back to the water. We now have a new, more powerful engine. Together with the boat, we also purchased the official license in order to carry on the boat people and goods up and down to the river which runs along Dacope, the area where we operate. The Dacope-Chalna area, located near the Sunderbon Forest, lacks fundamental services and decent road connections. There are a few roads, hardly praticable and in bad shape. For this reason, most people are forced to use the boat to move or carry their stuff. Moreover, the boat is a very cheap mean of transport and represents an affordable expense even among the poorest classes. Filodijuta’s boat could be rented by anybody at cheap fares. The rental fee of the boat will be used to support the 5 village schools of our “Lekhapora Shikbo” project. All the families of the students in the 5 schools have special discount price in renting the boat. In addition, we pay a salary to a single family who is responsible for running the boat and its mantainance. The Project “On the same boat” is part of Filodijuta Program in Bangladesh and is aimed at funding our activities in order to create a completely independent school system.
